This cactus-like succulent has ALL the flowers

When I think of cactus flowers, I picture a lone bloom… a single spot of color. However, the Crown of Thorns has an abundance of bright flowers. While a Crown of Thorns is technically a succulent and not a cactus, it’s spiny and is certainly cactus-like in appearance.

If you are looking for a low-maintenance plant, Crown of Thorns grows like a weed down here in South Florida. I’m in gardening zone 10b and I have two that are 4 and 5 ft tall. We also have quite a few smaller ones, that I’m assuming are from cuttings by the previous owner of our house/garden.

If you live somewhere less tropical, Crown of Thorns will thrive as a house plant, too. But make sure to keep them away from your furry friends as their sap is poisonous.
